Kylie Wiki

"2000 Miles" is a song originally by The Pretenders, released in November 1983; released as the lead single from their album Learning to Crawl.

Kylie Minogue recorded a cover of the song for her first holiday album, Kylie Christmas (2015).

Background and composition[]

Following the conclusion of her Kylie Summer 2015 mini-tour, Kylie went into the studio for the latter half of the year to record and comprise her first holiday album, which was released in November 2015, titled Kylie Christmas. The song was written by Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of The Pretenders, and although it doesn't mention Christmas, it is widely considered a Christmas song, with the lyrics dealing with two long-distance lovers over the festive period.

Kylie's cover was produced by Steve Anderson, who hand in producing the entire album; it runs for three minutes and thirty four seconds, is written in the key of G major, with a tempo of 90 beats per minute.

Release[]

"2000 Miles" was initially included as the tenth song of Kylie Christmas, but appeared as the fifteenth track on the re-issue of the album, released in 2016, once 6 further songs were added and worked into the track listing.

Live performances[]

Kylie performed the song during the 2015 show of her Christmas concert series, where she was joined by Chrissie Hynde herself.

Lyrics[]

He's gone two thousand miles
It's very far
The snow is falling down
Gets colder day by day
I miss you

The children will sing
He'll be back at Christmas time
In these frozen and silent nights
Sometimes in the dream, you appear
Outside under the purple sky
Diamonds in the snow sparkle
Our hearts were singing
It felt like Christmas time

Two thousand miles
Is very far through the snow
I think of you
Wherever you go

He's gone two thousand miles
It's very far
The snow is falling down
Gets colder day by day
I miss you

I hear people singing
It must be Christmas time
I can hear people singing
It must be Christmas time
