Background and composition
After wrapping up her Summer 2015 tour, Kylie went into the studio in the latter half of the year to record songs for what became her first holiday album, Kylie Christmas, which was released in November 2015. The song has been ranked the third most performed Christmas song.
Kylie's version of the song was produced by Steve Anderson, who produced almost every song on the album; it runs for three minutes and twenty two seconds, and is written in the key of F# major, set at a tempo of 85 beats per minute.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" appeared as the final song on the main album released in 2015, whilst it became the eighteenth track on the re-issue of the album, subtitled the Snow Queen Edition, released in 2016.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was originally meant to be performed in the second section of the 2015 show of Kylie's Christmas concert series, but was pulled before the show.
