Background and composition
"I Don't Need Anyone" was co-written by Kylie and Nick Jones, whilst the production was handled by Dave Eringa and James Dean Bradfield. The song talks about freedom of one's life, and the desire to find someone to love who they have no ideas or preconceptions about. The song runs for three minutes and twelve seconds, is written in the key of D major, and set at a tempo of 149 beats per minute
The song was recorded during the second part of the album's writing sessions, once they had been extended to find material that DeConstruction felt would be marketable. The song was considered as one of the choices for release as the lead single from the album, but was discarded in favour of "Some Kind of Bliss".
Kylie first performed the song on her Some Kind of Kylie special on MTV in 1997. Kylie included the song as part of her Anti Tour in 2012, launched as part of the K25 celebrations. The set list was made of of B-sides, demos and rarities from Kylie's career, and was performed in small venues for a limited stretch of time. A video of rehearsals in Melbourne, Australia was posted on Kylie's YouTube channel in March 2012.
