"Raining Glitter" is a song by Kylie Minogue from her fourteenth studio album Golden (2018). The song was written by Minogue, Alex Smith, Mark Taylor and Eg White, and was produced by the latter three; "Raining Glitter" was released as the album's first promotional single on 30 March 2018 to all streaming servers.

Background and release

"Raining Glitter" was written in Nashville, Tennessee during Kylie's two week visit in 2017. She stated in an interview that White was talking about disco, to which she responded "I love disco, but you know the brief."; they managed to blend the two genres of country and disco to create the song; Kylie also stated that she'd been inspired by The Jacksons' video for "Can You Feel It", where glitter is being sprinkled everywhere.

The song was released as the album's first promotional single on 30 March 2018 onto all streaming servers.

Composition

"Raining Glitter" is a song that fuses elements of the country sound that was touched on in Golden, and Kylie's notorious disco style. The song incorporates acoustic guitars and a nu-disco bass line along with disco beats, hand claps, 'whooping' vocal effects and the use of a rhodes piano. The song was selected as one of the album's best tracks, described as a "joyful" and "fun" anthem.

Live performances

"Raining Glitter" was first performed live during the Kylie Presents: Golden underplay shows in March 2018, as the third song in the set list. It was also included in her set list for her 2018 performance at G-A-Y. A chorus of "Raining Glitter" was performed during the Studio54 medley for the Golden Tour, which also featured unreleased song "New York City" and "On a Night Like This".

Lyrics

Whoop!

Every day's the same
Feeling every shade of grey
Playing by the rules when you wanna be led astray
Gonna miss that train, don't take me home
I've got all I need right here
Soaking up the sound, gonna wash it all away

Raining glitter down on us tonight
Covering us all in magic
Never ever seen them stars so bright
As the look in your eyes
Raining glitter down on us tonight
No more hiding in the shadows
Ooh, you look like diamonds in the light
Everybody put your hands up to the sky
And let it rain

Whoop!

We can let it rain
Let it rain down silver and gold
We all want the same
Yeah we're looking for that hand to hold
And a stolen kiss that feels so good that it might just change your world
You can call us fools, but these dreams will never get old

Raining glitter down on us tonight
Covering us all in magic
Never ever seen them stars so bright
As the look in your eyes
Raining glitter down on us tonight
No more hiding in the shadows
Ooh, you look like diamonds in the light
Everybody put your hands up to the sky
And let it rain

Whoop!

This is what it's about
Never stop
(Woop)
Say my name, hold me tight
In the dark
(Woop)
'Cause we're not, no we're not giving up on love

Raining glitter down on us tonight
Covering us all in magic
Never ever seen them stars so bright
As the look in your eyes
Raining glitter down on us tonight
No more hiding in the shadows
Ooh, you look like diamonds in the light
Everybody put your hands up to the sky
And let it rain

Whoop!
