"Santa Baby" is a 1953 Christmas song written by Joan Javits and Philip Springer, sung originally by Eartha Kitt. The song is a tongue-in-cheek look at a Christmas list addressed to Santa Claus by a woman who wants extravagant gifts such as sables, yachts, and decorations from Tiffany's.
In 2000, the song appeared as a B-side to Kylie Minogue's single "Please Stay" in 2000. The song has since appeared on many Christmas compilation albums, as well as a number of Kylie's own releases.
Release[]
"Santa Baby" was initially released as the B-side of the single "Please Stay", which was released as the fourth single from Light Years in December 2000; it song also appeared as the B-side to digital single "Over the Rainbow", which was released on Christmas Day in 2005. "Santa Baby" has appeared on a number of extended plays by Kylie, including, A Kylie Christmas and A Christmas Gift. A promotional CD for "Santa Baby" was released in December 2000, with "Please Stay" as its bonus track.
In 2015, Kylie released her first holiday album, entitled Kylie Christmas, on which "Santa Baby" was included, as well as being included on the re-issue of the album the following year. In 2010, a video for the song was released to Kylie's YouTube channel.
