"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" is a song written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie in 1934; becoming an instant Christmas classic, the song has been covered by a multitude of artists since its release.

Kylie Minogue recorded a version of the song for her first full-length Christmas album, Kylie Christmas (2015).

Background and composition[]

Following the end of her 2015 Summer tour, Kylie went into the studio to record songs for her first holiday album, released in November 2015.

Kylie's version of the song was produced by Charles Pignone and Steve Anderson, the latter producing almost all of the songs on the album. The song features as the second song on the album, and runs for a time of two minutes and fifteen seconds. The song is written in the key of Bb major, and is set at a tempo of 142 beats per minute.

Live Performances[]

Following the release of Kylie Christmas, Kylie announced a Christmas concert in the Royal Albert Hall for December 2015. The show featured a mix of Christmas songs and other songs from Kylie's back catalogue, and featured some special guests; "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" was performed as the third song in the show, and the following year, following the release of the Snow Queen Edition of Kylie Christmas, another two shows were announced, where "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" was again performed as the third song in the show.

Lyrics[]

You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list
Checking it twice
He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness' sake

Oh, you better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good, be good for goodness' sake

You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town, to town
Yes, he's on his way (O.K.)
He's got toys all over the sleigh (Oh, yeah)
He's Santa, he's coming to town
Where'd you go?
(Right here!)
