Reception

Critical response

The song was received very well by fans and critics, taking a liking to the song and stating that it would've made a good single. Another person who responded well to the song was American singer Madonna, who added the song to her Celebrity playlist for iTunes  so the song therefore gained popularity in the US. On the season 2 premiere episode ofAmerica's Best Dance Crew, which aired on 19 June, Fanny Pak used "Speakerphone" in the Crew Choice Challenge.

Chart performance

Despite never being released, the song charted on the Canadian Hot 100 at number eighty-seven based on high downloads from the album. It gained popularity in the U,S. because of Madonna adding it to her celebrity playlist on iTunes in 2008.

Live performances

Kylie opened her 2008 world tour performing the song with robotic type dancers and big speakers as props. She used a giant hoop to lower her to the stage. She also performed the song as the second song of the show on her North American Tour in the same sort of style but with an increased tempo (Steve Anderson remix), where it followed a performance of Light Years The winning video of the "Speakerphone Video Competition", which began to trend on Twitter. and was won by Rudolf Pap.

Lyrics

(Music make you lose control)
Lights, mind, eyes, hearts

Lights (flashing), sound (clashing)
Mind (blowing), body (rocking)
Eyes (locking), lips (touching)
Hearts (pumping), pressure (rising)
Breath (taking), rump (shaking)
Music (make you), lose (control)
Playing on your speakerphone
Track repeat go on and on

Drop your socks and grab your mini boombox
Do the pop lock, body rock, let the beat drop
Till you're shell shocked, baby, what?
Tell me what you got
Rock hard like a cinder block

Through your head bone, temple bone
Through your jaw bone
To your neck bone, collar bone, let it go on
To your back bone, moving on through your hip bone
When you're playing on your speakerphone
Track repeat go on and on

Lights (flashing), sound (clashing)
Mind (blowing), body (rocking)
Eyes (locking), lips (touching)
Hearts (pumping), pressure (rising)
Breath (taking), rump (shaking)
Music (make you), lose (control)
Playing on your speakerphone
Track repeat go on and on

With your friend or on your own
On the street or in your home
Feel the buzz and hum along
Playing on your speakerphone

Let the stars collide

Stop your pockets going ring-a-ding-dong
Turn your thing on speakerphone
We can get it on
Set your mind on freaky mode
Where you wanna go?
Feel the buzz grow
Let it blow

Through your head bone, temple bone
Through your jaw bone
To your neck bone, collar bone, let it go on
To your back bone, moving on through your hip bone
When you're playing on your speakerphone
Track repeat go on and on
