"Supernova" is a song by Kylie Minogue taken from her fifteenth studio album Disco (2020).
Background and composition[]
Kylie revealed the track title on her YouTube Community page, where she also shared cover art to go with it. "Supernova" was co-written by Kylie and Maegan Cottone, alongside its producer Sky Adams. Running for a length of three minutes and seventeen seconds, "Supernova" runs at a tempo of 124 beats per minute, and is set in the key of E minor.
In the liner notes of Apple Music, Kylie said:
| “ | There’s a vocoder voice at the start of the song. In my mind, it’s the voice of a little space creature who’s my friend in the song. I’m always drawn to celestial words and imagery, so this was a fun chance to play with all of those elements. I think making it slightly spacey was a way to do disco without being trapped in the 1970s. [Songwriter] Skylar Adams, who also co-wrote and produced on this, has a baby boy called Jupiter, so we wanted to work his name into the lyrics too. Kylie included "Supernova" in the set list for one-off live stream Infinite Disco, where it was performed after "Light Years". The first proper live outing of the song was during Kylie's WorldPride set in 2023, where the song was performed as a shortened version after a snippet of "Light Years".
